PROFILE RATING: E/18+
BIO: I'm kuro49—any pronouns. I'm a long-time fic writer who has been stuck in the Bathole that is the DC/Batman fandom for a while, but I've also written a fair bit for Pacific Rim, White Collar, X-Men: First Class, amongst other smaller fandoms. It's an absolute delight to be here, so thank you for having me. :)
PREVIEW: Don’t be ashamed of getting too weird or niche in your writing. Explore those dark, taboo kinks that pique your interest.

GENERAL QUESTIONS
┈┈・ ✦ ・┈┈
[Quillifer: What is the first fandom you remember being involved in? What drew you to this fandom / community?]
I don’t think any of my works survived from that time, but baby’s very first fandom was Beyblade, then I got into D. Gray-man for the rest of my formative years. I read a lot to start because I was still becoming fluent in English, but I also left tons of comments that led to full-blown conversations with writers I really admired at the time.
[Quillifer: How long have you been involved in fandom?]
I think I was around—11? 12?—years old when I first discovered FanFiction.net, so not to show my age, but oh my god, that was literally 20+ years ago.
[Quillifer: If you could travel anywhere for inspiration in your creative works, where would you go? Have you already gone on a majorly inspirational trip?]
I mostly write porn with a very thin veil of plot, so I tend not to need a lot of realism in the locations I use for my fics. I do like to travel a lot, but I rarely write when I’m traveling.
[Quillifer: If you had to choose an item of clothing, a food dish, and a color to describe yourself, what would you choose and why?]
A loose cardigan, a warm bowl of rice in soup, and the colour yellow. As to why, I think all of these things describe comfort to me and I like to be both comfortable and a comfort to others, if that makes sense.
[Quillifer: What are your hobbies / what do you do outside of fandom involvement?]
Not to be a toddler, but if napping counts as a hobby, then I’m a huge afternoon napper. Other things outside of fandom include: cross-stitching, true crime documentaries, and, uh, I recently got really into pickling radishes.
[Quillifer: What kinds of technology do you use to write and for everyday life? (iPad, laptop, phone, etc.)]
Laptop at home, phone on the go.
[Quillifer: What is your advice for fellow creatives / people interested in getting involved in your avenues of fandom?]
Don’t ever be afraid or ashamed of getting too weird or niche in your writing. Explore those dark, taboo kinks that pique your interest, write your favourite tropes again and again and again.
You can post your work for a community, but to keep at it for as long as I have, you have to learn to create for yourself. Your audience will find you one way or another, but that can’t be the sole reason that drives your creativity.
Maybe it’s cliché, but it feels especially important to say this these days amongst rampant fandom anti-culture and with the real world the way it’s become: be yourself unapologetically in every aspect that you can.
[Quillifer: What is the mark that you want to make on other people? (Strangers vs. acquaintances vs. friends, etc.) What do you hope people take away after they get to know you / your work?]
I think I’m already known as the BruJay (Bruce Wayne/Jason Todd) nut in the DC community. If not, I hope I can become that, lmao.
Jokes aside, I never really write with a lesson or a message in mind—I write for the fun of it. When an idea hits my brain, I have to get it out somehow. And if someone had fun along the way with me, then that’s really all the reward I could ever want.

WRITER-SPECIFIC QUESTIONS
┈┈・ ✦ ・┈┈
[Quillifer: What are some of your most commonly used words/phrases/etc.?]
I’ve been recognized in an anon collection for using the phrase ‘spread of his thighs’ before author reveals and I can’t even deny that, given how commonly it shows up in my fics, lol.
[Quillifer: What do you want readers to take away from your work? What is your favorite type of comment/feedback? (I.E. what makes you honored for people to point out when they read your work?)]
Since we are in the worst timeline, any comment that isn’t AI or a scam is precious to me. When I was new in fandom, I only ever commented anonymously, so I don’t think I will ever disable that feature on AO3 despite the amount of spam that comes through these days.
But really, any comment that points out which part or what line made my readers feel feelings makes me honoured to be able to bring that feeling to them through our shared favourite characters/pairings. I do enjoy writing a good open ending as well, so seeing how my readers would end my story in their heads is delightful.
[Quillifer: Are you the type to outline your work or do you just go for it? What does your drafting/editing process look like?]
Unless I am writing a collab with someone else or a zine requires it, I almost never outline. I usually complete a first draft, then that draft gets edited heavily or lightly depending on how rough the draft is.
I’d say a minimum of 3 rounds of editing (for plot, for flow, for grammar) before I post, less if it’s a drabble/snippet on Tumblr inspired by a fanart/shitpost, and more if it’s for a zine.
[Quillifer: What are the easiest / most difficult things for you to do as a writer?]
Easiest is introspection. I could have a character explore their thoughts and feelings forever without ever moving them an inch in a void I have not described. But, that goes for quite a boring story, so I interject a lot of introspection into PWP.
On the other hand, I find action in the non-sexual sense—fight-sequences, especially—to be difficult to adequately translate with words.
[Quillifer: I often find myself leaning on porn as a characterization / internalization tool. I think there’s a niche where pure introspection can thrive, but do you gravitate to this style out of a craving for a specific relationship dynamic you like?]
Before I fully grasp a character, I find myself leaning on the circumstances and/or plot points that move said character forward in a fic. Porn follows what can be a very straightforward path (foreplay, the act of sex itself, orgasm, afterglow) that pushes my development of that character along.
Once I have a decent grasp on a character and their voice, I think it's a bit of the reverse, where character introspection dictates how the porn goes.
Whether that’s in a “This is why I think this character would be into this kink” way, or a “This is why this character wouldn’t [be into this kink]” way—it makes for great intrigue to figure out what kind of AU or canon divergence could make it fitting.
Sometimes, it's to my benefit when I find a new, unfamiliar kink that I don’t quite grasp; I can’t help but want to explore it through my favourite characters to see why others might be into it.
Okay wow, that got long winded, and I still don’t know if I fully answered the question, lol, but I also feel like—in these backwards times that we live in—sometimes porn is just porn and that’s enough merit on its own.
[Quillifer: What are some of your major media influences? (Books, movies, music, etc.)]
I almost want to think of something a little classier but nah, it’s Hentai [the genre.] Outlandish tentacle porn, heart-shaped pupils, naked aprons, and the entirely unrealistic marathon sex with explosive orgasms, every time.
[Quillifer: What is your dream story to write?]
Hmmm, I don’t think I actually have one. Maybe some kind of multi-chaptered case-fic with an actual mystery to be solved? However, I know I’m not clever or patient enough to ever put in the work for it, so there’s no chance of that ever happening, lmao.
[Quillifer: Who are some of your favorite authors (fanfiction or published)?]
I might be biased, but all of my friends are incredibly talented people. I have no idea who to specifically name because I just have so many.

[Quillifer: What do you think brings readers to your work? What could you show a new reader to entice them to subscribe to you??]
I used to be very exciting, writing all kinds of rarepairs and polyships, but now? I’ve been into BruJay for soooo long and written way too many BruJay fics for that not to be the thing bringing new readers to my works.
So, uh, if anyone enjoys BruJay + literally any trope/kink, I probably have a fic for it. I am both dreading and looking forward to when my BruJay steam runs out, but I digress.
[Quillifer: Do you like your old work? Why or why not?]
Anything within the last 10-15 years, I can reread without major issues. Anything before that, I’ll probably be cringing too hard to actually do it.
Objectively, even if I can’t reread it, I do like my old work for the growth it's allowed me as a writer. The early days of support from fandom (comments and fandom friends I made as a result) definitely helped build my confidence in developing my style, which encouraged me to keep writing despite the possibility of being every kind of OOC, or being too long-winded, or using too much purple prose.
